This work had its breakthrough in 2023, when a Norwegian art collector — during a visit together with Queen Sonja — acquired it for his private art collection. This sale gave me the motivation to further develop my artistic style.

Some reflections on the artwork I had during the process of painting it:

This work is a visual reflection on life’s profound cycles—grief, strength, belonging, and the cosmic mystery. The point of departure is personal: my mother’s passing in 2011 after cancer. The sorrow and pain did not become merely a loss, but also an invitation to growth. At the center of the image stands a human with tense muscles—a symbol of the inner strength that can emerge when we choose to rise after life’s darkest moments.

The work also embraces the universal. The solar system swirling around the figure reminds us of how small we are, yet how deeply connected we are to something greater. A DNA spiral grows out of the human and connects to a planet—an image of how human development is closely tied to the sun, the source of energy, and how consciousness and insight grow through closeness to life force.

To the left in the foreground we meet Raja—my faithful dog for seven years—an important companion in life. On her back sits a strange figure, an extraterrestrial observer posing the eternal question: Are we alone in the universe, or is there more—both before and after life?

In the background, the mountains of Lofoten rise beneath the northern lights—a symbol of the place where the work was created, and of the presence of Northern Norwegian nature.

Directly above the head of the main figure floats a globe with a fetus inside—an image of the planet as a living organism, and of life’s circularity: from earth, through us, and back to the earth.

To the right we see a bed, and within it a figure—the final memory of my mother before she was cremated. Above her hovers an eagle with outstretched wings, representing both nature’s powerful forces and the symbolism of the Mexican flag—a bond to my mother’s roots. Perhaps it is her soul rising with the eagle. Perhaps it was an eagle watching over her. Perhaps she is now the eagle itself.
